Earl LaRue "Pete" Baker Jr., 76, of Pekin, Illinois, formerly of Peoria, Illinois passed away early Thursday morning, December 17, 2015 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on October 29, 1939 in Peoria, Illinois. Earl was the eldest son of the late Earl Sr. and Rozena (Hart) Baker. Earl is preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Eleanor Phillips who passed in 2013. Earl leaves behind to love and cherish his memory, one brother, seven sisters, two children, two granddaughters, several nieces and nephews, also his trusted friend and companion, his dog, Chance.
Earl honorably served his country in the United States Army. He retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation after 30 years of service. He was a proud member of the Peoria Speedway Old Timers Club. His passion was working on cars and racing at the former Mt. Hawley and the Peoria Speedway, as a driver and family owner. Earl enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and friends. His hobby was making unique fishing lures for everyone's enjoyment. He was an avid NASCAR fan. He will be truly missed by all. A celebration of life will be held from 5 PM until 7 PM Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Davison-Fulton Woolsey Funeral Home in Pekin, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded and private inurnment will be held at a later date at the Oakridge Cemetery in Farmington, Illinois where he will be reunited with his beloved wife.
