Earl Ray, Jr., 93, of Springfield, formerly of Pleasant Plains, IL, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg, IL.

He was born on Dec. 24, 1923 in Pleasant Plains, IL, the son of the late Earl Ray, Sr. and Anna (Robinson) Ray.

Mr. Ray worked as the office manager for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge #675 in Normal, IL.

He is survived by 1 sister-in-law Joyce Ray (his brother Robert's widow); 2 nephews, Wayne (Jan) Howard, and Gregg Ray; 4 nieces, Barbara Johnson, Sally (Gary) Boesdorfer, Deb (David) Coontz, and Carol McGuar; and several great nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Eileen Howard, Ada Rule, and Edyth Sowers; 3 brothers, Robert Ray, Jesse Ray, and Hardin Ray; 3 nieces, Linda Ray, Judy (Lloyd) Lacy, and Janet Kirby; and 1 nephew Gary Ray.

Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield, where visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017 from 1 pm until time of the funeral service at 2 pm. The funeral will be held at the funeral home with Dr. Blythe Kieffer officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Plains Cemetery.
