Earnestine "Stine" McCray was born July 13, 1942 in Troy County, Alabama to now deceased parents Zedrick and Mammie Lou (Murphy) Slones. Her siblings: Mary Slones, Eura Coleman, Rev. John Slones, Evelyn (Allen) Williams, Minnie Owens, Bell Slones (sister-in-law), and James Slones also preceded her in death. Stine grew up in Alabama and later moved to Illinois for better opportunities. She was a member of Waukegan Church of Christ in Waukegan, Illinois and a longtime resident of Zion, Illinois where she lived until the Lord called her home on December 31, 2017.
After moving to Illinois, she was employed with American Hospital Supply, Anchor Coupling, and Fansteel. In the early 2000's, after fifteen years of employment, she retired from Abbott Laboratories.
Stine enjoyed many pleasures of life, especially her family time. Stine was a woman of substance whose love and care for others proved itself in her everyday walk of life. She tirelessly extended her love to everyone and her heart and home had an open door policy. She was an amazingly strong, faith-filled, praying woman. She stood tall and proud as a gracious pillar of the family, wise beyond her years. Stine was the one who remembered all the minute details and fun facts; the family historian, if you will.
Stine leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted and loving siblings: Elonzo Slones of Orlando, FL; Jeffie Slones (sister-in-law) of Orlando, FL; Dorothy Slones (sister-in-law) of Atlanta, GA; Savannah (Roosevelt) Ricks of Orlando, FL; and Sandra Ann (James) Teeter of Ramer, AL; her adoring godson: Kenneth Anderson Sr.; her treasured god-children: Samantha Daniels, Carolyn Gray, and Darius Williams; her best friends of many years: Vernia Turner (friend of over fifty years), Margaret Maldonado (friend of over forty-five years), Robin Anderson (friend of twenty-plus years), Carol Carbinear, and Christina Hauser; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives too numerous to name but not forgotten.
