Edith Allen Webber Nicholas, age 104, passed away Thursday November 9th, 2017 at Westminster Canterbury in Virginia Beach, VA. Edith was born April 9th, 1913 to John and Florence Allen in Henderson, NC. She graduated from Henderson High School in 1931, and in 1935 she received her nursing degree from Norfolk General Hospital.

Edith worked at Norfolk General Hospital before working at the the private practice of Dr. Brown and Dr. McDowell, and she subsequently worked as a nurse for several years for the Norfolk Public Schools before retiring in April of 1978.

Edith met her first love, the late George J. Webber, while in nursing school. George went on to become captain of a Norfolk fire station. Edith and George celebrated the arrival of their son, George Allen Webber, and their daughter, Jane Webber. George Allen followed in his father's footsteps and served as captain of a Norfolk fire station. Edith later met and married her second love, the late Harry Nicholas.

Throughout her life, Edith served those around her in many ways outside of nursing. Her passions led her to fulfill an active life in several capacities, including: President of the Little Creek Women's Club, President of the Kenlake Garden Club, being a member of the Red Hat Society as well as the Eastern Star. Edith was also very active in Park Place Methodist Church and enjoyed the pleasures of gardening and playing bridge with friends. Her greatest love, however, was always reserved for her family.
