Edith Jewell Sims


Edith Sims, 97, of Columbia, MO passed away Friday, November 03, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. Visitation will be from 4-6pm, Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Memorial Funeral Home 1217 Business Loop 70 West Columbia, MO. Funeral service will be 1pm, Monday November 6 at the funeral home, burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Edith was born October 18, 1920 in Boone County to Oscar E. and Eliza B Nichols Forbis. On July 8, 1939, she married Lewis E. Sims, and he preceded her in death. For 25 years, she worked at Ellis Fischel as a surgical technician, and worked for Columbia Public Schools for 5 years. She was active in several social clubs; as a member of the Rebekah Lodge #583,a lifelong member of both the Eagles and VFW Ladies Auxiliaries, and a member of the Wilkes Blvd United Methodist Church. She enjoyed shuffleboard, dancing and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Gruber; two grandchildren, Lisa (Dave) Geiger and Michael Gruber; 5 great grandchildren, Rachel Gruber, Alex Geiger, Kristin Gruber, Megan Geiger, and Katelyn Gruber; five great-great grandchildren, Aubrey Jo, Jayden, and Cayson Garcia, Everett Geiger, and Parker Galloway; her nieces and nephews, and her special friend, Bill Canole. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Donald R. Forbis and Leslie Forbis, and son-in-law; Everett Gruber.
