Edith Mae Maxwell, 86, of Ridgeway, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at her residence She was born in Fieldale, VA, October 5, 1930 to Thomas Fulton Walker and Ethel Mae Vaughan Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Leroy (Sonny) Slaughter, and a nephew.

Aside from working at American of Martinsville for over 25 years, Edith sold tickets at the local drive-ins and movie theaters. One of her favorite past times was working as manager of the concessions at Martinsville Speedway.

She is survived by her husband, William F. Maxwell; children, Tommy (Wanda) Slaughter, Alice (Jensie) Turner, Marie (Robert) Aldridge, Anita (Robert) Williams; stepson, Joey Maxwell; grandchildren, Missy Hall, Robert Grogan, Doug Aldridge, T.J. Slaughter, Andrea Robertson, Drew Williams, Sonny Williams; Step-Grandchildren, Terri Jones, Robin Oakes and Susan Turner; great-grandchildren, Allison Richardson, Dillon Hall, Kassidy Slaughter, Kylie Slaughter, Nickolas Aldridge, Ian Betton, Gavin Grogan; step-great grandchildren, Kristen and Cameron Robertson; great-great-grandchildren, Landon Hall and Coy Richardson; step-great-great-grandson, Tal Richardson; and brother, Donald W. Walker (Gladys); and two nieces.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at McKee-Stone Chapel from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017.
