Mrs. Edith Moody McDaniel passed away Thursday, July 13, 2015, in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the age of 89. She had been a longtime resident of Nacogdoches, Texas, but had been living in Shreveport, LA for the last four months. She was the first born to Taylor "Dick" Moody and Mary Jane Byrd Moody on Feb. 1, 1928 in Melrose, Texas.

Mrs. McDaniel is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Marshall Moody and Sam Moody; sister, Barbara "Bobbie" Rogers; and Ottis McDaniel, her husband of 55 years.

She is survived by her two sons, Gary McDaniel of Nacogdoches, TX, Ray McDaniel along with wife, Lisa of Ridgway, CO; two daughters, Sherry and husband, Dan Harrison of Aztec, NM, Patricia and husband, Michael Beckham of Shreveport, LA.; siblings, Helen Collier of Tyler, TX, Evelyn Crawford-Beckum of Nacogdoches, TX, Maxine Hardeman of Austin, TX, Floyce Marie Sierra of Pennsylvania, and Tommy Moody of Nacogdoches, TX. eight grandchildren, Scott McDaniel of Boulder, CO, Noah McDaniel of Plaucheville, LA.,Melissa McDaniel of Austin, TX, Amy Harrison Quick of Burns, WY, Laura Harrison Tennenhouse of Portland, ME, Richard Harrison of Seattle, WA, Matthew Beckham of Seattle, WA, and Leah Beckham Schutza of Bossier City, LA.; nine great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Edith grew up in the Nacogdoches area. After her marriage to Ottis McDaniel on March 18, 1946, they made their home in various parts of Texas from Dallas to Houston, eventually settling in the Houston area where she was employed with the W.F. Woolworth Company for 25 years. Mrs. McDaniel built a wealth of friends over her years at Woolworth. Upon retirement, she and Ottis returned to the Piney Wood Hills of East Texas, where she had many brothers and sisters.

During her retirement years, Edith, affectionately known as "Mee-Maw McDaniel" kept in constant contact with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, other family members, and cherished friends. She was dubbed the "CARD QUEEN" by those who knew her well. She kept a calendar that was marked with all of the special dates relating to her family and friends. If something special was happening for you, you got a card about it.

In honor of the "CARD QUEEN", we are asking you to think about what you might like to jot down on a card for Edith. At the Celebration of her life on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, cards will be made available for you to jot down and leave your special message with the beloved "Card Queen". Family and friends are invited to a gathering 30 minutes prior to the service. A brief reception will follow the service before the interment to Fairview Cemetery

The Celebration of Life on Friday, July 21, 2017 will begin with a gathering time of 2:30 PM, followed by the Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 PM, then a short reception will follow before moving to Fairview Cemetery..
