Edith Scott Dickerson Rider, 93, passed away May 1st in Hartford, CT. Edith lived with her son John, his wife Sally and their three boys; Gratton, Tristan and Clayton in North Granby, CT. Edith was the beloved wife of John 'Pokey' Rider of Virginia. After many years in Pulaski, VA, the family moved to Williamstown, MA and then to Easton, PA for John's profession and later she moved to Connecticut. Edith was predeceased by her husband, John in 1999 and her daughter, Cathey in 1996. Born and raised in Pulaski, VA, Edith became active in the Girl Scouts in the late 50's and early 60's. During the 70's, 80's and 90's Edith was very active in her churches. In later years Edith enjoyed spending time with her family and Sally's family for gatherings and holiday occasions. She also loved her time spent at the Granby Senior Center. Edith and her family were members of the First Baptist Church in Pulaski, VA, the First Baptist Church in North Adams, MA, where Edith was the Church Secretary, First Baptist Church in Bethlehem, PA, and later at the South Congregational Church in Granby, CT. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Nuckols; and two brothers, Bill and Tommy Dickerson; a nephew, Randy Nuckols; and a niece, Sharon Wilson. Besides her son and his family, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Joyce Dickerson and many nieces and nephews; Nance & Carl Thompson, Martha & Rick Moody, Paul & Andrea Dickerson, Keith Dickerson, and Tom Dickerson. Edith was a beloved 'Mema' and will be missed for her smile, her generosity and her thoughtfulness. Her family will receive friends on Monday, May 8, 5-7 p.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby, followed by a service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Dennis Moon officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Pulaski, VA.
