Edward Jack Hofer passed away quietly in his sleep, surrounded by loved ones, on January 1, 2018 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, of natural causes. He was 81 years old. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Born in Glendale NewYork on December 18, 1936 to Edward and Ana Hofer, Ed grew up as an avid baseball and hockey player. An excellent hitter and first baseman, he was good enough to play semi-professionally in the old minor leagues. When his baseball career ended, he entered the Academy of Aeronautics. He worked for Grumman Aircraft for six years. An accomplished aircraft mechanic, he worked on the flight controls of the original Blue Angels planes while at Grumman.

Ed married Antoinette Russo in July of 1958. They relocated to Burbank, California in 1963, where they resided at the time of his passing. Ed worked for Litton Industries as a precision sheet metal mechanic. He later worked for Super Freeze of Glendale, building commercial-grade walk-in freezers.

Together, Ed and Antoinette raised four children: Edward of Anaheim Hills; Garry of Seal Beach; Barbara of Northridge; and Steven of Alameda. Ed's love of baseball never left him. He was active as a youth baseball and softball coach for his children, and in his later years played in the Burbank senior softball league. Garry and Barbara later played at the collegiate level, and Ed rarely missed a game.

In addition to his wife and children, Ed is survived by five grand children: Rick and Joyce (of Edward and Evelyn); Corrina (of Garry and Lori); and Patience and Carl (of Steven and Lesli) and one great-grand child: Kalvin (of Rick).

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Seal Beach Animal Care Center.
