Edward J. "Mitch" Mitchell, resident of Marin County for fifty years, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on May 13, 2017. Ed graduated from Tamalpais High School, Class of 1950, attended College of Marin prior to being called to duty to join the 1 st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, CA, to prepare for the invasion of Inchon, Korea and up to the Chasin Reservoir. After a few years in the communications department of the Marin County Sheriff's office, Ed entered into the insurance business and established the Mitchell Mitchell Insurance Agency in Novato, CA.

Born in Chicago, 'l on September 11, 1931, his mother died in childbirth and with his father, unemployed in the depression, he and his three older brothers were sent to the Catholic orphanage, Our Lady of the Academy in Manteno, ll. At the start of WWII, he lived in Bergen County, NJ before heading west for Marin County, CA.

In 1951, he married Jacqueline Minot, San Rafael High Class of 1950, they started their lives together in San Anselmo, purchasing their first home in Tiburon and eventually settling in Novato in 1966. Not one to let his injury define him, he was active in his children's life, Little League Baseball, the Marinites Junior Ice Hockey Club and the ultimate prankster Boy Scout Leader.

In 1996, Ed and Jacquie retired to Sun City Roseville and were active participants in the adult community. He returned to Marin County in 2011.

Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years Jacqueline, his parents James and Marie McCaffrey Mitchell, his brothers Jerome Mitchell (Lake Grove, NY), Thomas Mitchell (Denver, CO) and his sisters-in-law Jean, Connie and Terry and Milo (Bud) and Alice (Bobbie) Andrews, formerly of San Anselmo.

He is survived by his brother James Mitchell (Washington, CT), his children, Sindy Graham, Rohnert Park, Gary (Sandy) Mitchell, Novato and Shaun (Sue) Mitchell, Truckee, grandchildren Sean, Jason, Laura, Paul, Erik, Siri, Heather, Kristi, Kenneth and Paul and great-grandchildren Brian, Tyler, Paul, Logan, Zayden, Alyssa and Evan and numerous nieces and nephews.
