Edward Joseph Weld passed away peacefully at home on March 19,2017. Born on June 27,1928 in
Pennsylvania, he was the son of Louis and Catherine Weld. He is survived by son Edward Joseph Weld, Jr
of Culpeper; grandson Edward Alexander Weld of Culpeper; granddaughter Leslie Weld Rhodes and her
husband George of Manassas; and great-grandsons Liam Joseph and Brennan Matthew Rhodes, also of
Manassas. . He is also survived by sisters Margaret Whelan and husband John of Medfield, MA; Marian Oviedo and husband Raul of Elkton, VA; sister-in-law Elizabeth Weld of Spartanburg, sc.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell, daughter-in-law Nancy Bell Weld, and siblings Mary Devereux Weld, Catherine Harper, Sarah Stultz, and Louis Mackall Weld.
Ed, known as Uncle Ed to many friends in the community, moved to Culpeper in 1954 with his wife Nell.
He served in the US Navy from 1946 to 1951. He was an industrial arts teacher at Culpeper County High
School from 1954-1975, and many former students fondly recall his shop classes. In 1974, he became
Culpeper County's first Building Official. After retirement from the county, he opened his own company,
Culpeper Inspections and Appraisals.
Friends will be received from 10-11:30am at Clore-English Funeral home on Saturday, March 25, 2017.
Requiem Mass will follow the viewing at 12 PM at Precious Blood Catholic Church, 114 E. Edmondson 5t,
Culpeper. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
