Edward Karels, age 75 of Bellingham, MN passed away March 7, 2012, at the Ortonville Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rosen, MN. Father Robert Goblirsch will officiate and burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at the church beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a scripture and rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church Saturday morning, one hour prior to the Mass. Music will be provided by Madonna Adelman, organist and the St. Joseph Choir. The lectors will be Di Abrahamsen and Connie Lesnar. Honorary bearers will be: Bill Clifton, Jerry Carlson, and Dale Rieck. Casket bearers will be: Tom Rademacher, Kevin Rademacher, Aaron Rogenbuck, Jack Abrahamsen, Tom Croatt, and Dennis Wittrock.

Edward Leonard Karels was born February 26, 1937, in Yellow Bank Township, Lac Qui Parle County, MN. He was the son of Hubert E. and Elsie (Vogelbacher) Karels. He attended school in Rosen at St. Joseph Catholic School. Edward was united in marriage with Marie Pepka on June 20, 1959, in Milbank, SD. Edward farmed on the family farm one mile north of Rosen. He lived on the farm for 70 years. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He later drove truck. He enjoyed hunting and bowling. He played baseball on the Rosen team. His family will miss his wonderful cooking and grilling adventures. He treasured his family and grandchildren, and had a special place in his heart for his dogs. He was an avid pinochle player. He was proud of his trucks.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marie of Bellingham, MN; two daughters: Barbara Jean Karels of Paynesville, MN; Yvette Marie (Brian) Long of Lake Preston, SD; one son: Edward Leon (Julie Ann) Karels of Minneapolis, MN; seven grandchildren: Meghan Karels, Brian Belanger, Jordan Karels, Brock Sharp, Daniel Long, Erin Bruns-Long; and Alison Long; an adopted by heart son: Jack (Di) Abrahamsen of Coon Rapids, MN; one brother: Norbert Karels of Ortonville, MN; one brother-in-law: Roger Lund of Woodbury, MN; four sisters: Mary Lou Croatt of Ortonville, MN; Irene Mathison of Ortonville, MN; Mardelle (Edwin) Croatt of Madison, MN; Betty (Bob) Phillips of South Windsor, CT.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents Hubert and Elsie; one daughter Lynae Elizabeth Karels; four sisters: Florence Ulrich, Mildred Yatckoske, Sylvia Croatt, Annette Lund and two infant brothers: Clarence and Dennis.
