Edward S. Giard, 78, of South Windsor, beloved husband of the late, Catherine (Palmer) Giard, died Tuesday (April 25, 2006) at St. Mary's Home, West Hartford. Born in Hartford on June 9, 1927, son of the late John Oliver Giard and Emma (Larochelle) Giard, he had lived in Manchester for 58 years before moving to South Windsor. Mr. Giard was employed as an expeditor at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford, for 32 years. He was U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Church, South Windsor. Ed was a UConn fan, especially of Women's Basketball. He enjoyed taking family vacations each year at Hampton Beach, NH. Retirement gave him the opportunity to play golf, which he loved. He leaves a son, Deacon Edward J. Giard and his wife, Frances of Manchester; two daughters, Catherine Gorman and her husband, Paul of North Smithfield, RI and Sandra Daigle and her husband, David of South Windsor and eight grandchildren and a great grandson, Christopher Giard, his wife, Megan and their son, William Timothy Giard and Elizabeth, John, Gregory and Theresa Giard, Jonathan Gorman and Keith and Erica Daigle. Family and friends may gather, Friday 9:15 a.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Margaret Mary Church. Burial with military honors will be in St. James Cemetery, Manchester. His family will receive friends, Thursday from 5-8 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home.
