Eileen C. Tidwell passed away January 1, 2018 while a resident at Windcrest Alzheimer Care Center. A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 11:00am. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday evening from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South.
Eileen was born June 21, 1931 to Albert Joseph & Julia Frances Enderle Dumey in Ancell, Mo. Eileen married Walter Carlos Tidwell on September 12, 1951 & were married 61 yrs. at the time of his passing December 21, 2012. Walter being in the USAF took them to Germany twice, Illinois and Mississippi before retiring in Abilene, TX.
She worked for H & R Block for numerous years before going out on her own at Tidwell Tax Service. She enjoyed doing income taxes, but her love came from baking at least 10 different kinds of Christmas cookies. Her son, Joe, being a firefighter at the time, would take his children, Shelby & Jason, to make the rounds to each fire station delivering cookies regardless of where Joe was on duty at the time. When her then daughter-in-law, Lynn, became a police woman, the Police Dept. was also included in the rounds.
She quilted, crocheted & taught those skills to her daughter, Marla. At one time she crocheted name doilies for many of her clients. Her daughter would tease, "if you had a name, you would get a doily!"
When her health still allowed her, she attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Jeanette Street.
Eileen is predeceased by her parents, siblings-Henry Dumey, Al "Sonny" Dumey, Mag Crump, Marian Bohn, Verna Hoffman, Sharon Rogers & Rita Dumey. Her husband Walter passed December 21, 2012 & sadly her son Joe died in a car crash August 24, 2015.
She is survived by daughter Marla & husband Randy Hanks. Grandsons Cody Allen & Jason Tidwell, granddaughter Shelby Tidwell. Great granddaughters Shaylee, Presley & Everlie Allen all of Abilene. Sisters Carolyn Pickens & husband Jerry of Jackson, MO & Patsy Crader of Whitewater, MO, as well as numerous nieces & nephews who have always been a big part of her life & her heart. She had a list of every person's birth date & would send each person a card. She did this for as long as her mind allowed before dementia took over.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Hospice of the Big Country.
