Obituary

Eileen King died peacefully at home in Aurora on Sunday at age 101. She was born on her parents' farmstead in Edgar County near Newman, Illinois on July 2, 1917. She is the daughter of Ervin Kincaid and Mildred Monroe Kincaid.

Eileen married Merrill H. King, after being college sweethearts, on July 4, 1942. They were married for 52 years until his death in 1994. Eileen's children are David M. King, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and James E. (Jami, wife) King, Hudson, Illinois. Her grandchildren are Evan J. King, Sycamore, Illinois and Laura S. King, Chicago, Illinois. Her great-grandchildren are Stephany, Maggie, and Adrian. Eileen was proud of all the ribbons she won as a 4H member raising Hereford steers as a child. She attended MacMurray College and graduated from University of Illinois. Following graduation, she taught at two different high schools for a few years in Central Illinois until her marriage. Eileen resumed teaching in 1963 at West Aurora High School where she taught speech and English and was the yearbook sponsor until her retirement in 1995. She was a favorite of the kids, with continuous visits and letters from her students. As one of her children, I can say that no matter where we were with her, locally, out of state, or even out of the country, there was always somebody yelling, Hey, Mrs. King!

Eileen was a regent in the Daughters of the American Revolution, and also a division director of the Chicago Area DAR. She also belonged to the Aurora Women's Club, the Conservation and Garden Club, and the Aurora Area Retired Teachers' Association. She was a past president of the Mid-America Pressed Glass Club and was a Lifetime Member of the Aurora Historical Society.

Thank you for everything, Mom. Rest in peace.

Visitation will take place from 1 P.M. until the time of the funeral at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl., Aurora. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park.
