Eleanor (Hughes) Kilbon, 91, of Bloomfield, CT passed away in her sleep on November 19, 2008. Ellie was born in Cambridge, MA on December 23, 1916, daughter of Elliot B. and Mary L. (Durgin) Hughes. She grew up in the Boston area and retained her Boston accent all her life, a source of delight to her family. Ellie attended Jackson College of Tufts University and graduated from Katherine Gibbs College. In 1940 she married R. Kenyon Kilbon. Beginning in 1949 they and their two children spent three years in France and the Netherlands and traveled extensively in Europe. They lived for 10 years in Princeton, NJ, where Ellie was secretary at the Unitarian Church, then moved to New York City. Ellie and Ken retired to Sheffield, MA and, after Ken’s death in 1977, Ellie moved to Bloomfield where she volunteered at the public library and the Prison Store. She continued to enjoy traveling with friends and family. On her 80th birthday she rode the Channel Tunnel train from London to have lunch in Paris. She was a ten year resident of Seabury Retirement Community where she made many friends among residents and staff. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Seabury and at the UConn Health Center for their kindness and consideration. Ellie is survived by her two children, Susan and her husband William Stiles of Oxford, OH and David and his wife Judy of East Granby, CT, by two grandsons, Michael Kilbon and his wife Shelley of Loveland, CO and Stephen Kilbon and his wife Kim of Williston, VT, by two great-granddaughters, Myleigh Eleanor and Kaiya Pamela Kilbon of Williston, VT, and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, older sister Elizabeth, identical twin sister Emily, and younger brother Elliot.
