Eleanor Lee Serrett Palmer completed her earthly journey of 98 years on Saturday, April 2, 2016. Born September 13, 1917, she was the last living child of the late Alma Newham Serrett Clatterbaugh and William Serrett, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J. Russell Palmer on April 30, 1976, and son, James A. Palmer on November 2, 2010.
Mrs. Palmer was a 1934 honor graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and worked many years in retail sales in the Staunton and Charles Town, West Virginia areas. Upon the death of her husband, she returned to her beloved Green Acres, Fishersville, where she resided until a severe fall in November, 2009.
Mrs. Palmer leaves her devoted family: a granddaughter, Dawn Palmer Young and husband, Ronnie; great granddaughters and spouses, Jessica Dobbs (Chance), Marla Poteat (Nick), Julie McClamroch (Bryce); great-great grandson, Braeden Dobbs, great-great granddaughter, Harper Mae McClamroch; and daughter-in-law Mae Palmer, along with a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service at Thornrose Cemetery will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2016 conducted by Dr. Steve Traylor and Daniel Pritchett.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 406 West Frederick Street, Staunton, VA 24401 where she was a life-long member.
