Elisha Elaine Kudrna, 20, of American Canyon, passed away peacefully the evening of November 12, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born April 19, 1994, Elisha entered this world in the front seat of her parents Volkswagen Rabbit—just steps away from the emergency entrance to the Kaiser Vallejo Medical Center! Elisha's birth was acclaimed on the front pages of the Napa Register and only five months later the paper shared with its readers that she had been diagnosed with the a rare genetic disorder, Neimann-Pick, affecting only one in four million people. Loving parents Jeff and Monica Kudrna, at first stunned, scared, even a little angry, began to navigate the health care system to ensure the finest care for their daughter whom doctors said would likely not live more than three years. The family remembers with heartfelt gratitude the benefit held at the Napa District Auditorium for Elisha's early health care needs when Monica needed to remain at home and care for her baby. Always the community has shown love and kindness for the little girl whose mother remarked at the time, "She's a tough little girl. She fought coming into this world, and she is going to fight going out of it!" Elisha endured countless medical procedures, visits, and hospitalizations including a splenectomy, a liver transplant at age four, and heart valve replacement at age 11. Indeed she did fight—seventeen years longer than most physicians supposed. Monica and Jeff, and older brother Daniel, tried to provide a normalcy of life for Elisha. She was educated in local schools—attending Irene Snow Elementary, and American Canyon Middle and High Schools. Elisha enjoyed riding the bus and being with friends and other kids. She loved music, being outside, and watching movies. Monica recalls her daughter's favorite things were pizza, boys, and watching survivor! Elisha is survived by her parents Jeff and Monica (Brisbon) Kudrna; brother Daniel Kudrna; grandparents: Jeff's father Larry Kudrna and his wife Pat, Jeff's mother Arlene Rowe and her husband Robert, Monica's father Larry Brisbon and his wife Chloe, and Monica's mother Margaret Martinez. She is also survived by loving aunts and uncles: Jeff's brother Scott Kudrna and wife Maggie, Sister Stacey Glenn and husband Gary, and sister Michelle Cunningham; Monica's brother Monty Brisbon, and sister Roze Miller and husband Ivan. The family wishes to extend their warmest appreciation to the many doctors, nurses, teachers, classroom aides and members of the community who have provided their care, love, and support. While Elisha and her bright smile will be missed here on earth, the family knows they will see her again in heaven! A service to celebrate Elisha's life will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Grace Church of Napa Valley, 3765 Solano Avenue in Napa, with Pastor John Fernandez officiating. Committal will follow in Tulocay Cemetery in Napa. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday at Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel in Napa. The family asks that memorials be made to UCSF Child life Services, 505 Parnassus Ave., M181 Box 210, San Francisco, CA 94143; or to the Make a Wish Foundation, www.wish.org. Treadway & Wigger Funeral Chapel is serving Elisha's family.
