Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Allen
November 21, 1928 - December 28, 2018

After making it to her 90th birthday celebration, thru Christmas and her youngest daughter's birthday, Betty quietly left us on Friday December 28th. Her journey to meet loved ones who left before her, started while being surrounded by the loved ones who will be left behind.

She entered the world on November 21st, 1928 in Columbus, Texas as Elizabeth Meryl Thomas. Most of her early years were spent in the Fort Worth area where she graduated from Harris College of Nursing as an RN. Her career made a detour when a young medical student sparked up a conversation with her. She married that soon to be doctor, Francis (Arnold) Allen in 1952.

From then on she was a devoted mother to five children as well as several foster children. Wherever her husband's career took them, she made a home. In 1961, they settled in Midland where the couple were an integral part of the community. Whether it was the dinner club, St. Ann's Family Fair or their pediatrician office, three generations of Midlanders were touched by their presence.

Summer camping trips with the family were some of the best memories before they purchased a vacation property in Vanderpool, Texas. They retired to their Hill Country home in 1994 and then relocated to Lakeway. Betty and Arnold were married for 54 years.

Even though flying was not Betty's favorite mode of transportation she loved traveling, trying new foods and recipes. Betty especially was an avid bird watcher and spent many hours identifying her feathered friends.

She is survived by her daughters and sons: Debby Walthall and husband Bill of Atlanta; Sharon Gray, of Lakeway; Mark Allen and wife Nessia, of Midland; Kevin Allen and wife Julie, of Midland; and Erin Biliski and husband Jerry, of La Porte. She has eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren who will miss her tenderness.

To the end she had a sense of humor that was sometimes surprising. Those who knew her will remember her grace, beauty and wit.

Betty's memorial service will be held on January 5th from 2-4 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish in Lakeway on 411 Ranch Road 620 South.
