Mrs. Bowman was born on February 1, 1927, in Toledo, Ohio, a daughter of the late William Herman Mylander and Elizabeth Houk Mylander. She was predeceased by her husband, James G. Bowman, Sr. and sister, Sara M. Cox.

Mrs. Bowman received her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the College of William and Mary and her Master of Science degree in Reading from James Madison University. She did research work at the University of Virginia Medical School, Department of Pharmacology, and at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 4 nieces and 1 nephew.

We are forever grateful for the loving care and friendships from Mom's caregivers headed by Janice Landis. They made it possible for her to live out her days in her beloved apartment at VMRC. Thank you Katie, Brenda, Kimberly, Addie, Candice, Denise, Elena, Erin, Gabby and Shauna. And thanks to Meribeth, 'Housemother' at VMRC whom Mom had on speed dial.

The body will be cremated and private burial will be in the Timberville Cemetery. A memorial service will be conducted at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on a later date. After the Memorial Service, the family will receive friends in the Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that contributions be made to the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Free Clinic, the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, or a favorite charity.
