Graveside services for Elizabeth Ray "Libby" Tolar, 87, of Memphis, TN are set for Wednesday March 8 at 11:00 o'clock in the morning at Henry Cemetery. Libby passed away on March 4, 2017 at Allen Morgan Health Care in Memphis.
Libby grew up in Corinth, MS and graduated from Ole Miss with degrees in English and Education. While there she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority. She later received her master's in Psychology from Memphis State University. Libby served in various offices in both the American Psychological Association and the Tennessee Psychological Association where she served as President. She also served the students in Shelby County as a School Psychologist until her retirement. She was an active member and volunteer at the Church of the Holy Communion.
Libby's joy was traveling and she went all around the world to feed that passion. One of her favorite accomplishments was scaling the ancient heights of Machu Pichu in Peru. She was also an avid amateur archaeologist and dug in various sites from Mesoamerica to Native American as well as digging in the Mediterranean islands off the Greek shores. She was also a volunteer at the University of Memphis Archeology Department.
Libby was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Mary "Mame" Ray of Corinth and grandson Samuel Coleman.
She leaves a daughter, Regina Tolar Coleman (Woody) of Memphis and a son, John Tolar (Mary Lynn) of Knoxville, grandchildren Lauren Coleman Robinson (Jay), Ben Tolar (Jessea), Drew Tolar (Molly) and 6 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the Memorial Fund at the Church of the Holy Communion, 4645 Walnut Grove Road, Memphis, TN 38117.
