"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness. " -II Timothy 4:7-8 As the hymnist has written, "Servant of God, well done; rest from thy love employed. The battle is fought, the victory won; now enter thy Master's joy." Mr. Elliott Mumford was born in Florence County on April 17, 1947. He was fourth of six children born to Alford and Evelyn Merritts Mumford. He departed this life on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at McLeod Regional Medical Center. "Ed," as he was lovingly called by family and friends, was educated in the Florence County public schools. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and became a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. Even though he was not able to attend regularly due to his illness, he loved his church, his church family and continued to support the church. Elliott loved his family and his friends. Anyone who came in contact with him fell in love with him the first time they met. He always had a kind word for everyone and appreciated anything that anyone did for him. He always managed to lift your spirits even when he was not feeling well. Most of all, Elliott loved the Lord and always had a testimony of what the Lord had done for him. In addition to his parents, three of his brothers, Alford, Henry, and Herbert Mumford, preceded him in death. Those left with many precious memories are: two sisters, Ms. Bobbie J. Daniels of Florence, SC and Ms. Carolyn Mumford of Quinby, SC; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Bertha Mumford of Florence, SC; nieces, nephews, and cousins of the home, whom he was very fond of, Dr. KaTrina Daniels of Houston, TX, Miss Keyerra C. Daniels and Master Kollin C. Daniels of Quinby, SC, Mr. Allen Shante' Daniels of Bennettsville, SC, Mr. Jeffery Rouse and Mr. Willie "Man" Rouse, both of Quinby, SC; also raised as siblings, Mr. Larry Rouse and Mrs. Linda (Andrew) Singleton of Florence, SC; a special cousin and friend, Mr. James Merritts of Manhattan, NY; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
