Elsie Ashton, daughter of the late Andrew Ashton and Leola Tate and Andrew Ashton, was born on September 25, 1927 in Montross, Virginia. Elsie departed this life on April 12, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital. Elsie had lived at the Park View Apartments in Wilmington for many years; and in February of 2011 moved to The Regency Health and Rehabilitation Center on North Broom Street in Wilmington, Delaware Well loved by many in Wilmington, Delaware and Chester, Pennsylvania, Elsie had many friends from varied walks of life. She was an avid reader of romance novels, the local newspaper, and loved word puzzles and solitaire. Popular magazines and her daily News Journal kept her up-to-date with both local, national and pop culture news. She was a great fan of old movies, especially westerns like Wagon Train, Bonanza and especially Gunsmoke. Elsie was fun, warm and loving, a reason why many entrusted her with the care of their children. She will be missed by her sisters and brothers living in Maryland and the Washington area, a by a host of friends and family members. Funeral services 12 noon, Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Congo Funeral Home, 201 N. Gray Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19805. A viewing will be held 11:00 am-noon.
