Elsie Baugh Jones died Sunday December 17, 2017 in Abilene at the age of ninety nine. Funeral services will be at 10am on Tuesday December 26, 2017 in the Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory St. with Rev. Felicia Hopkins officiating.
Mrs. Jones was born October 9, 1918 in Cisco, Texas to Grace Scott Baugh and Sam P. Baugh. She moved to Abilene at one year of age. She graduated from Abilene High School and attended McMurry College and the University of Texas in Austin.
Elsie married Earl Wooten Jones in 1938. After college they moved back to Abilene. She volunteered at many jobs through the years. These included the Y.W.C.A. Bd. Of Directors- 12yrs, Abilene State School, Museum Bd & Guild, and Abilene Jr. League. Elsie and Earl delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. They were members of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Elsie and Earl traveled to all but 5 countries in the world. Their age made them stop traveling so they stayed home and enjoyed family and friends. Elsie and Earl enjoyed each other sixty eight years until Earl died at age 88.
Preceding her in death are her parents; brothers, Worth Baugh and wife Elizabeth, Glen Baugh and wife Jean.
She is survived by her daughters Nancy Osborne (husband Don) of Buffalo Gap, Leslie Smith (husband Monty) of Abilene; grandchildren Mary Jane Moore of Abilene, Carolyn Landess (husband James) of San Antonio, Stanley Earl Smith (wife Amy) of Abilene, Matthew Scott Moore (wife Cary) of Anchorage, Alaska, and Paul Wooten Smith (wife Mary K.) of Dallas; great grandchildren, Madeline Cole, Gracie Smith, Harrison Smith, Abigail Smith, Hannah Smith, Grant Smith, Collin Smith, Lauren Smith, Aiden Moore, Sara Moore, Ben Moore, Emily Moore, Eli Moore; nieces June Boler, Claudia Vieth and Pam Chassanioi of Houston.
The family would like to thank Sue Gibson for her tireless, compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Medical Care Mission or Meals on Wheels.
