Elsie Watkins Robinson, 92, of Florence, passed away at her nursing home on July 22, 2014 after a long illness.

Elsie was born in Rose Hill, Mississippi on August 30, 1921 to Emily Thigpen Watkins and Charles Edgar Watkins. She graduated from Mississippi Delta Junior College and Mississippi State College for Women.

Elsie married J.F. Robinson, and together they had one child, Melanie Robinson Noto, of Byram. Before her marriage, Elsie worked at First Federal Savings and Loan in Jackson, later leaving that job to become a homemaker. She enjoyed travelling, playing bridge, and spending time with family. Elsie was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church, where she served on the church council and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She served as treasurer of that organization for sixteen years. Elsie is survived by her daughter, Melanie Robinson Noto, her grandsons, Frank C. Noto, IV (Casey), of Florence, and Mark J. Noto (Samantha), of Terry, and great granddaughters MiaBella and Piper Noto. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, J.F. Robinson, and seven brothers and sisters. She was the last of her generation in the family, and her strength, resilience, and love for family kept her going long after most would have given up.

Funeral services will be held at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25 and from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26. Memorial donations may be made in Elsie's name to Marvin United Methodist Church in Florence or to French Camp Academy. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Compere's Nursing Home for their kind, attentive care during the last weeks of Elsie's life.
