Emily Anne Carlsruh Featherstone

Emily passed away October 5, 2014 at her home in Henderson NV. She was born in Wisconsin on July 20, 1947 in Racine, Wisconsin to Henry and Martha Knowlton Carlsruh. She had fond memories of growing up in Milwaukee and playing the shores of Lake Michigan. She graduated from BYU in business and marketing and worked in San Francisco for a small production company that produced television, including Sesame Street. There she met Richard Featherstone at an LDS dance. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple December 17, 1971. They moved to Guam while Richard practiced dentistry at Anderson Air Force Base, where Jill and Mara were born. Then they moved to Sandy, Utah where Adam, Ethan, and Joel were born. Most recently, Emily and Rich made their home in Henderson, Nevada.
She loved to meet new people from all over the world and sought out work that let her help travelers. She volunteered for several years at the Salt Lake Visitor's center at the Salt Palace and, while living in Las Vegas, she worked for hotel convention business. She was an expert at the best sights, activities and shows for anyone coming to Las Vegas or Salt Lake City. She welcomed all friends and family, even annual rodeo conventioneers, to her home as they visited Las Vegas.
Emily lived a life of selfless service to those around her and she shared a love of learning and the arts with her five children and sixteen grandchildren. She had endless patience, driving all five of her children to various lessons including computer programming, sports, piano, drums, saxophone, dance, oboe, Salt Lake Children's Choir, and theatre companies. Her curiosity about the world continued with her to the end of her life, with her love of historical nonfiction and her book club. Emily was a wonderful partner with Richard in home building, parenting, grand parenting, and in the dental practice, handling payables and accounting.
Emily is survived by her husband, Richard, her five children Jill (Mike) Fairchild, Mara (Sam) Adams, Adam (Sharie) Featherstone, Ethan (Amber) Featherstone, Joel (Jen) Featherstone. She is also survived by her mother, five siblings and sixteen grand children. As a mom and friend, she said "I love you" by showing up and doing what needed to be done. She was our rock and will be in our hearts forever. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Granite View Stake at 3100 East 9800 South at 10 am. Evans and Early Mortuary.
