Emma Radomile Toschi passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 25, 2017. Born on the Aeolian Island of Salina, off the coast of Messina, Sicily, her family immigrated to Sidney, Australia when she was 2 years old in 1929. She was the youngest of four children of Giuseppe and Giuseppina Costa. As a young girl she apprenticed as a hair dresser and fell in love with her new profession. Little did she know that her two granddaughters, Lea and Lexi, would inherit her genius for hair design. By God's hand, she met and married an Italian-American soldier by the name of Leo Radomile and became an 18 year-old war bride in 1945.
Emma, owned and operated Emma's High Fashion Beauty Salon in Mill Valley, CA from 1963 to 1983. Widowed in 1977, Emma remarried in 1983 to prominent fine arts dealer and art restorator, Joseph V. Toschi. Over the next 23 years they toured the world, with many trips to Joe Toschi's native city of Lucca in Tuscany, as well as trips to Emma's Sicily and Australia.
Over the years, Emma's American cousins, who originated from Salina, Sicily came to light. Emma's first cousin Giacomo "Jack" Costa, founded Costa Brothers in Stockton, CA and were famous for wine grapes and Bing cherries. Judge Edward Re, Chief Justice of the International Court, was also a prominent law professor at St. John's University in New York. And Jesuit priest John Lo Schiavo, who became president of the University of San Francisco from 1973-1987, her son Leon's Alma Mater, class of 1972.
Emma is survived by her son, Leon J. Radomile, and his wife Lanette of 42 years, of Novato. Their children, Lea Radomile Lindsay and husband Steve of Petaluma and Lexi Radomile Otterstetter and husband Kevin, of Rohnert Park. Lea's two daughters, Ashlan 10 and Stella 8. Nephews and Nieces in Australia. Both granddaughters inherited their grandmother's hair styling talent and for the past 11 years have owned Sorella Hair Salon in Petaluma.
Family and friends are invited to attend a rosary on Thursday evening, June 29th at 6 pm (viewing 4pm to 8pm) at Keaton's Redwood Chapel in Novato.
On Friday, June 30th a funeral Mass will be held for Emma at St. Isabella's Church, 1 Trinity Way in Terra Linda (San Rafael) at 10:30 am.
Internment will be at Valley Memorial Park Cemetery at 650 Bugeia Ln, Novato, CA 94945, (415) 897-9609
This will be followed by a 1:30 reception at La Toscana Restaurant, 3751 Redwood Hwy, San Rafael, CA 94903 (415) 492-9100.
