Emmajane Kleinhans Rossman, 97, of Charlottesville and Stuarts Draft, died in peace Monday, December 28, 2015 at Stuarts Draft Retirement Community. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on February 27, 1918, a daughter of the late Henry Clift and Edythe Welch Kleinhans.
Emmajane graduated from Michigan State University. She was married to the late Darwin L. Rossman, who had a 30 year career with the United States Geological Survey. During this time, Emmajane, her husband, and five children lived in the Philippines, Liberia, Pakistan, and Colombia. After Darwin's retirement in 1977, the family moved to Charlottesville. She enjoyed reading, drawing, birds, wildflowers, music and collecting bottles. Emmajane dedicated her life to taking care of her family, and never forgot anyone on a special occasion.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Donnie and Mark Rossman; brother, Bill Kleinhans and his wife, Vivian Kokx; sister, Mary Kleinhans Thaden and her husband, Robert; two nephews, Jack Kleinhans and Edmund Thaden.
Survivors include her children, Peter Rossman, Mary Downey and husband, Eben, Kim Gayle and husband, Wade, Jill Sellers and husband, Eric; six grandchildren, Theresa Downey Henson, Daniel Gayle, Michelle Downey, Sara Gayle Guertler, Laurel Sellers, and Kate Sellers; two great grandchildren, Masyn Michelle Henson and Jackson Croxford Henson; sister in law, Joanne Rossman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
There will be no public viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
