Mrs. Emogene "Gene" James Caldwell died April 3, 2017, at her home in Pontotoc, MS. She was born on October 7, 1922, to John Houston and Ruby Harvey James in Sallisaw, OK.

She lived in Missouri and Tennessee before making her home in Pontotoc, MS, where her late husband, James Robert Caldwell, was owner and consultant of Caldwell Engineering Services. She was a devoted member of the Pontotoc First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club, and a former member of the Pontotoc Music Study Club and the Open Gate Garden Club. She enjoyed reading, good music, and playing bridge with her friends.

A graveside service will be held Friday, April 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pontotoc City Cemetery with the Reverend Michaele Wood and the Reverend Wil Howie officiating. Browning Funeral Home of Pontotoc is overseeing the arrangements. Visitation is noon to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include two sons, James Robert Caldwell, Jr., of Pontotoc, Dr. Martin Houston Caldwell and wife, Carla of Vaiden, MS, two daughters, Kathleen Wells and husband Cecil, of Jackson, MS, and Marcia Hughes and husband Don of Memphis, TN, twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, by her parents, and by a sister, Kathleen Williams.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Sammie Douglass and the other caregivers, Barbara Roye, Maggie Hobson, Onnie Betts, Shirley Hill, and Audrey Souter.
