Ernest Mancini, 93 of Leesport, passed away peacefully in the Lebanon Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Lebanon on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. He was the son of Antonio C. and Domenica (DiLaurenzio) Mancini and husband of Marian K. (Filbert) Mancini.

He was born in Reading on March 24, 1924 and grew up in Reading. He was raised by his father because of his mother's long-term illness. He graduated from Reading High School. The family first lived in Reading then moved to the farmlands area of Leesport in 1954 where they remained for 62 years.

Ernest married Marian K. Filbert in 1946 when he returned from overseas from the service, as he pledged in his letters to her, and they were happily married for 71 years. They made raising their two sons and the wellbeing of their granddaughters and great grandchildren the number one priority in their lives.

He was a World War II veteran of the US Army, 1943- 1946, serving in Section 2 of Battery A of a 40 mm antiaircraft (AA) gun unit in the 779th Company, 24th Division in Okinawa and Korea. His service to our country was very important to him, and he looked forward to participating, with battery mate, the late Donald "Junior" Ruthardt, at the annual reunions of the 770th Company and seeing his veteran brothers at the Cochranville Reunion and the Fort Indiantown Gap Annual Conference and Reunion and attending the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum's World War II Weekend Annual Event at the Reading Regional Airport with his son, Terry and great grandson, Luke.

Ernest worked for UGI in Reading for 41 years starting as serviceman and retiring as a night dispatcher in 1988. He was active in the union affairs and fought for the rights of his fellow co-workers, who held him in high regard for his honesty and integrity, and he enjoyed going to the Annual UGI Quarter Century Club Dinner Meeting with his dear friends, William "Curly" Boyer and Annie Hain, to talk with those he worked with and fellow retirees.

He was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was loved by his family, well-liked by his friends for his amicable personality, and respected by colleagues.

Surviving is his wife, Marian K. (Filbert) Mancini of Leesport, two sons: Dr. Terry L. Mancini and his wife, Rita of Sinking Spring and Ernest A. Mancini, PhD and his wife, Marilyn of Northport, AL; four granddaughters: Kristin N. (Mancini) Herbein of Wyomissing, Kelly D. (Manicini) Burkman of Sinking Spring, Lisa L. (Mancini) Harden of Montgomery, AL and Lauren N. (Mancini) Mozingo of Madison, MS and nine great grandchildren.
