Esperanza Olivares, 86, of Plano, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017. She was in the company and the care of her family until her last breath. She was born on May 6, 1931, in Tampico, Mexico, to the late Miguel and Juanita Hernandez. Esperanza was in love with the beauty of her home town, Tampico, and went back to visit in her later years. During her youth she painted and drew and, later on, her artistic talent was passed on to her offspring and grandchildren. She attended a business school in Mexico and enjoyed her studies. Although she put her studies on hold to get married and care for her family, she never lost her zeal for politics and religion. She enjoyed listening to talk radio, and sitting at the kitchen table with family and friends discussing current events.

Esperanza was a devout Catholic her entire life and a parishioner of St. Mark Catholic Church in Plano for almost 20 years. She was very charitable, donating to various charities and giving her all to her family, her commitment to which surpassed everything else. Esperanza was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and her dedication to caring for her son, Marcos, was of utmost importance to her until the very end. She expressed her love for her family through her food, and was an expert in Mexican cuisine. One would always find her in the kitchen cooking an array of Mexican food, but her specialty was "cheese taquitos" loved and always requested by her grandchildren throughout the years. Esperanza always made sure both her children and grandchildren had a warm meal when visiting.

In her younger years she also spent time outside the home attending church functions, dances, and shopping. She was an Elvis Presley fan and also enjoyed Spanish music and going to flea markets. She had a sense for fashion and enjoyed wearing leopard skin patterned clothing and sunglasses. She always blessed family members before they left her home and reminded them to pray, be good to others, and go to church. As a grandmother she will always be remembered for her sense of humor and selflessness toward her grandchildren. Her family will continue honoring her spirit by praying, attending church, and helping others.

In addition to her parents, Esperanza was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pablo Olivares, on July 29, 2017; son, Paul Olivares III; and three brothers, Miguel Hernandez, Carlos Hernandez, and Jose Luis Hernandez. She is survived by nine children, Cindy Olivares of San Antonio, TX, Ivonne Olivares of Plano, TX, Alma Adriano of Addison, TX, Gerardo (Haydee) Olivares of Little Elm, TX, Miguel (Nilsa) Olivares of Hickory Hills, IL, Arthur (Ida) Olivares of St. Paul, TX, Marcos Olivares of Plano, TX, Monica Mendoza of Plano, TX, and Ben Olivares of Dallas, TX; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Paul, David, Michael, Monica, Georgina, Jerry II, Veronica, Christina, and Sabrina; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on January 19, at 1pm at St. Mark Catholic Church, 1201 Alma Dr., Plano, TX 75075. A reception will follow the burial Mass at:
