Mrs. Essie L. Willis
Essie was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 1, 2017, as she entered into eternal life.
Essie was born in Melvina, MS on September 13, 1919 to mother, Georgia Glasco Harris and was raised by her grandparents, Lee and Julia Glasco.
She accepted the Lord at the early age of twelve and was baptized by the Rev. A.D. Walls of Mt. Pleasant Church, Alligator, MS. Essie and her family moved to Farrell, MS and joined Humble Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. B. C. Kelley. There Essie served on the Usher Board. She attended Humble Chapel Schools. November 17, 1936, the family moved to Chicago, IL where Essie graduated from Beauty Culture in Dunbar High School. Essie attended and joined Mt. Herman Baptist Church under the late Rev. E. Seale. She worked on the Usher Board and was elected President. Having finished school, Essie met and entered into matrimony with, Morrison Willis in Chicago, IL. Having had a loving marriage, Mr. Willis departed this life on March 31, 1980. In years to come, always a Christian, Essie joined Bethlehem Star Baptist Church, Rev. Chambers Robinson Pastor. Essie worked as a Nurse Aid in the missionary circle and remained until her retirement in 1979. In 1982 she relocated to Newport News, VA to be with her daughter, Gwendolyn and joined Lifeline Full Gospel Church, Pastor Rev. Herbert Hill, Jr. Finally in July 2005 Essie and Gwendolyn moved to Jonesboro, GA to join grandchildren and great grandchildren. In 2008 Essie and Gwen relocated to Austell, GA to enjoy the twilight of their senior years together.
Having lived a full life in Christ, Essie is survived and cherished by her daughter, Gwendolyn Hughes; one granddaughter, Kimberley Trent and her husband, Glenn of Jonesboro; one grandson, Mark A. Hughes and his wife, Donnella of Mableton, GA; great grandchildren, Mark A. Hughes, II, Brittany C. Trent and Isiah I. Hughes. Essie has many loving nieces, nephews and friends who mourn her loss.
Preceding Essie in death are her grandparents, Lee and Julia Glasco and mother, Georgia G. Harris; brothers, Willard and Samuel Harris; sisters, Inez Boaman and Julia Johnson.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 2 PM in the chapel of Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery.
