Esther Marie Vandahl Dunlap, 86 years old, of Vicksburg, Mississippi passed away at Belhaven Senior Care in Jackson, Mississippi on October 24, 2017.

Esther was born in the Four Mile Creek community in Pottawattamie County, Kansas on May 28, 1931 to Ellen and Johannes Vandahl. She attended high school at Cleburne, Kansas. She was a member of the Mariadahl Lutheran Church near Cleburne, Kansas until its closure.

Esther is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her three children, Sally Dunlap of Euless, TX, Tommy Dunlap and wife Pattye of Clinton, MS, Randy Dunlap and wife Wanda of Flora, MS. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Travis Dunlap, Sara Scothorn, Craig Rossett, Ashley Dunlap Prine, Peyton Dunlap, Matthew Dunlap, Brett Benham, and five great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her brother, David Vandahl and wife Judy of Weston, Missouri.

Esther grew up on the family farm near Cleburne, Kansas in the Blue Valley. She later lived for a time near Satartia, MS and then in Vicksburg, MS where she worked at the Waterways Experiment Station as a librarian until her retirement.

Esther was blessed with many talents. Prior to moving to Mississippi, she served her church as an organist. She was a gifted artist in many forms such as painting, decorating and flower arranging. She loved to read and was a lifelong learner. One of her favorite pastimes was to stop at the Mississippi River Overlook in Vicksburg and watch the barges and towboats go up and down the river.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to her caregivers at Belhaven Senior Care for their love and kindness to her these last few years.

Services will be at Olsburg Lutheran Church in Olsburg, Kansas on November 3, 2017 at 11 am.
