Esther Wahl, 94 of Tonasket, formerly from Puyallup, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Wed., July 22, 2015 at North Valley Extended Care in Tonasket, WA. She was born June 23, 1921 in McCluskey, N.D. to Jacob and Katherine (Hetterle) Bender. This is where she grew up and attended school. In 1938 she met and married Wilbert Wahl. Together they had 7 children. Several were raised in N.D. Then in 1960 they packed up and moved west to Washington State. They lived briefly in Tacoma before moving to Puyallup and called it home for over 35 years. In 2001 (several years after Wilbert passed), she moved to Tonasket where she resided until June 22, 2015. Esther and Wilbert were members of the Jovita Baptist Church in Edgewood. She enjoyed cooking Sunday meals for church friends and family. She especially enjoyed cooking her "signature" dishes, German food. Esther was the best German cook around and best of all, taught her children and grandchildren the art of German food. She loved meeting people, babysitting her grandchildren and working with crafts. She will be truly missed and was greatly loved by all. She worked many jobs, the last of which was Rottles Apparel in Auburn as a sales clerk. Esther is survived by seven children; four sons, Gilbert (Marlene) of Bonny Lake; Wallace (Gail) of Loomis, Ronald (Judy) of Loomis and Allan (Donna) of Lk. Cushman; three daughters, Joyce (Quentin) Spitzer of Bismarck, N.D., Karen (Max) Zackula of Mabton and Sheila (Mike) Anderson of Eatonville; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbert Wahl in 1992; great-granddaughters Kaisha Rose and Rebecca; 8 brothers and sisters. The family of Esther would like to thank the compassionate and loving staff at the North Valley Extended Care for the wonderful home they have provided our mother the past few years. They truly made her stay there her HOME!
