Ethel Moore Cody, age 94, resident of Pleasant View Retirement, Concord, NH, previously of Hutchinson Island, FL, and Stratford, CT, entered into eternal life on March 15, 2012. She was born January 16, 1918, daughter of George and Mary Saul Moore. She graduated from Laurelton Hall in Milford, CT, Class of 1935. In 1939, she received her BA from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. From 1939-41, Ethel was the Society Editor of the then Bridgeport Post. In 1942, she married John Francis Cody. Occasionally she served as a substitute teacher, and devoted herself to homemaking and her family. Ethel was renowned as a hostess and thoroughly enjoyed entertaining, especially for family and friends. She was highly-skilled in both knitting and crocheting. Ethel loved life especially dancing and music including traditional Irish folk. Ethel traveled extensively in the last 10 years having experienced cruises to Spain, Italy and the Greek Isles, as well as the Caribbean. As a resident of Pleasant View Retirement, Ethel was very active until late this past autumn. She had served on the Welcome Committee as well as participating in multiple activities such as Summer Theatre, Wii bowling and weekly luncheons. It was well known by her family that if you didn't phone Ethel by 8:30 AM. that you would not be able to reach her until late evening due to her busy activity schedule. Ethel was predeceased by her four siblings: Richard, Kenneth, Mary and Margaret Moore. She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Cody, Sr.; sons John F. "Jeff" Cody, Jr., William F. Cody; and grandson, Kevin Perkins-Cody. She is survived by her sons, George M. Cody, DDS. and partner Joan Beyda, of Bridgeport, CT; Paul J. Cody, PhD, and partner, Cindy Perkins of Pittsfield, NH. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Marty Lanese Cody of Stuart, FL. Grandchildren; Anne Cody, Jessica Cody, Thomas Cody , Lisa Cody Larkin and husband, Scott Larkin, William Michael Cody and wife, Crina Cody, Christine "Tina" Cody.Great grandchildren: Julia, Jack, Ryan Larkin. Also by Andrew F. Beyda , Washington, DC. and William Roy of Pittsfield, NH Dear friend, Mary Ladd of Concord, NH., who was like a daughter to Ethel Loyal companions and fellow residents of Pleasant View Retirement of Concord, New Hampshire. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 8:30 AM at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield followed by a celebration of her life with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport CT at 10:30 a.m.
