Eugene Douglas Lowdermilk, 76, of Morganton, passed away Monday morning, February 2, 2015 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
Mr. Lowdermilk was born in Burke County on June 14, 1938 to the late Douglas and Mary Alice Lowdermilk. He was married to his wife of fifty four years, Margie Pruett Lowdermilk. Mr. Lowdermilk was a master woodcraftsman. He retired after fifty years of dedicated service with Henredon Furniture Company. He assisted with the construction of his community's Church, Calvary Assembly of God on Pea Ridge Road. Mr. Lowdermilk loved nature. He enjoyed panning for gold, hunting, fishing, and spending time in his garden. Most of all, he adored the company of his grandchildren. He touched the hearts of many and will always be remembered.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, P. Lowdermilk; and two brothers, Manford and Walter Lowdermilk.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Lowdermilk of the home; three daughters, Betty Smith and Husband John of Morganton, Mary Robinson and husband Jeff of Drexel, and Christine Ward and husband Tracy of Morganton; a brother, Bill Lowdermilk of Morganton; five sisters, Joanne Pritchard and husband Roy of Morganton, Mildred Crump and husband Joe of Morganton, Linda Stillwell and husband Dewey of Morganton, Bertha Powell of Valdese, and Louise Connor and husband Earl of Morganton; eight grandchildren; a great granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 5, 2015 at the Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with Pastor Blaine Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at the Calvary Assembly of God Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the funeral home.
