Eugene. E. Calzetta of Guilford, formerly of 239 Forbes Ave. New Haven, died March 2, 2013 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of the late Louise Sapio Calzetta. Father of Claudia Calzetta, Sr. of Loretto, Paula Calzetta and Eugene C. Calzetta. Brother of Frances Calzetta and the late Lucille DeMusis and Rita C. Diglio. Grandfather of Jessica Keilty and the late Justin Calzetta. Step grandfather of David and Desiree' DeJesus and great grandfather of Shea Calzetta Bartell. Predeceased by his stepmother Assunta Parente Calzetta. Gene was born in New Haven October 17, 1920 to the late Carmine and Celeste Parente Calzetta. He served with the Army during WWII and after being honorably discharged began a career as a firefighter on the New Haven Fire Dept. where he worked for 35 years before retiring. He was also a longshoreman at the New Haven Terminal. Gene loved sports, especially horse racing, the New York Yankees and the Giants. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday from 4-7pm at the IOVANNE FUNERAL HOME, INC. 11 Wooster Pl. and are asked to go directly to St. George Church, Guilford, Thursday morning at 10 for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions in Gene's name may be made to the National Association of Blind Veterans PO Box 784957, Winter Garden, FL 34778.
