Of Kettlersville, OH., died on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 1:12 P.M. at the Fairhaven Home, Sidney, OH. He was born on February 19, 1931 near Kettlersville. He was the son of Homer and Ruth (Egbert) Kettler. On March 10, 1951 he married Ethel Mae Howell who died on October 11, 2008. Survivors include his children; Steven and Julie Kettler of Botkins, Sharon and John Lenhart of Jackson Center, David and Julie Kettler of Kettlersville and Marianne and Phil Snider of Botkins, nine grandchildren and his siblings Roland and Beverly Kettler of Kettlersville, Larry and Kay Kettler of AZ., Connie and James Blackwell of FL. and brother in law Theodore (Becky) Miller of TX. He was preceded in death by his grandson Timothy Lenhart and sisters Eileen Miller and Dolores Pequignot.
Mr. Kettler was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Kettlersville where he had served as a church Elder. He served on the Kettlersville/Van Buren Twp Fire Dept. for 42 years and was a former Fire Chief of the department. He was a 1949 graduate of Anna High School. He was a private pilot, owning his own airplane for a number of years and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Assn. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War where he was a supply S/Sgt for the 320th Bomber Squadron. He belonged to the American Legion Post 442 of Anna, OH. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. He raised cattle, milked his dairy herd and worked the ground on the farm he was born on until the past few years
Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Kettlersville with Pastor Charles Moeller officiating. Burial will follow in the Willow Grove Cemetery, New Bremen. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 until 8 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen and on Thursday from 9:30 until the time of the services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church memorial fund.
