Eugene "Gene" Elledge died peacefully at his home in Lake Stevens on November 29, 2017. He was 91 years old. Eugene was born on July 23, 1926 in Kahlotus WA to the late C. Clyde and Ethel Mae Elledge. He was one of 11 children in the family. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley Elledge (Latshaw).
He earned a Master's Degree in Education from Eastern Washington University in 1956, with additional graduate work at Central, Western and Washington State. He worked as a teacher, principal and assistant superintendent with the Washington Public Schools. Eugene met his wife Shirley during his college years. His first career opportunity brought him to Okanogan, WA where Shirley's parents resided. Eugene also coached basketball and baseball.
Eugene and Shirley moved with their children to Cashmere, Wenatchee, and Walla Walla before making Monroe their final home.
Upon retirement from the Monroe School District as Assistant Superintendent, Eugene studied and practiced Real Estate. Eugene was active in numerous associations, including the Monroe School Board, Evergreen State Fair Board, and the Monroe Methodist church.
Eugene served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II earning numerous medals of honor.
He is survived by his five children - Doug Elledge (wife Michelle - Monroe, WA), Kae Elledge (Kamuela, HI), David Elledge (New York, NY), Kris Elledge (Monroe, WA), and Darren Elledge (wife Kate - Cambridge, MA). His grandsons are Greg, Michael and Jake. Gene's siblings that have survived him are sister JoAnne Garver (Chuck), brother Daniel Elledge, brother Richard Elledge (Carol), sister in law Marge Elledge; and many loving nephews and nieces.
A private, family graveside service will take place Monday, December 4th. In lieu of flowers, Gene would prefer donations be given to the Evergreen State Fair 4-H and FFA programs. Gene was very supportive and dedicated to the Evergreen State Fair, serving on the Fair Board for years. Donations can be made in remembrance of Eugene Elledge to support children in the 4-H and FFA programs.
