Eva Catherine "Kay" (nee Reeder) Mohr Ehret, 89, passed away on January 13, 2018, in their FL home after an extended illness. Born and raised in Paragould AR, Kay spent all of her adult life in Belleville IL.
Kay was predeceased by her husband Glenn F. Mohr, son Daniel F. Mohr, parents Ava and Todd Reeder, and her six siblings.
Remaining to mourn her passing are her husband of 12 years, Grant Ehret, daughters Patricia (John) Balkonis, Glenda (Harry) Sterling, grandchildren Erica (Adam) Smith, Matthew (Paige) Balkonis, Robert (Tiffany) Schmitz, Zachary (Alyssa) Sterling, Melissa Sterling, and Harry (Michelle) Sterling, great-grandchildren Adam & Zoe Smith, Kayla Balkonis, Connor, Owen and Brody Schmitz, Molly Keim, Zoe Allen-Sterling, step-children Mike (Jan) Ehret, Mark (Cheri) Ehret, Kathy Ehret and Kristy (Scott) Janus, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, dear sister-in-law Doris Reeder Richardson, and numerous loved nieces and nephews, and cousins.
The love of Mom's life was her family. She was active in her children's school activities including being President of the PTA, president of the DeMolay Mother's Club, and attending the many shows in which her children participated. Mom's many years singing in the choir at the Belleville St Paul United Church of Christ Church brought her much joy, and she was a life-long member of the St. Clair County Republican Women's Club. She will be remembered by all as an avid (may we say rabid?) pinochle player - everyone wanted to be her partner, not the opposition - and for her incredible Southern cooking and baking and hosting many family gatherings.
Kay started her working career at a new Sears and Roebuck in East St. Louis, which was the first built immediately after WWII. Her later career included working as a unit secretary at Belleville Memorial Hospital, an assistant in the Medical Surgical Doctors' office in Belleville, and several years as a Bookkeeper for a private company.
Services will be at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N. Illinois St, Fairview Heights IL 62208. Visitation is Friday January 19 from 4:00 - 8:00; funeral services will be at 10:00am Saturday officiated by the Rev. Dr. Martha Thierheimer.
Memorial contributions in memory of Kay may be made to the O'Fallon United Church of Christ, 206 W Adams St, O'Fallon IL 62269.
