Odie Faye Walker, 94, of Levelland, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 6, 2017, in Terrell, Texas. A visitation will be held Thursday, February 9, 2017, from 5 to 7pm at George Price Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 10, 2017, at 2pm at First Baptist Church of Levelland with Reverend Michael Holster officiating. Interment will follow at the City of Levelland Cemetery under the direction of George Price Funeral Home. Faye was born on August 5, 1922, to the late E.M. and Odie Faye Barnes in Waco, Texas. Faye and her family moved to Levelland and she attended Levelland schools until graduating high school. She then attended Baylor University before marrying John W. Walker on November 1, 1942. John and Faye served their country during WWII, he in the Pacific with the Army Air Corp and she as wife and mother in the states. After his return and ending of service, they settled in Levelland to farm and raise their family. Faye returned to college life and graduated from South Plains College in 1962 and Texas Tech University in 1964 with a BS Degree in Education. The family had moved to Kress, Texas, during the Tech years and she began her teaching career there. She continued to teach for 21 years, 19 of those in Dimmit, Texas. She loved her career and all the students who came through her classes. She retired in 1985. John and Faye then began their "snow-birding', years of living in South Padre Island and Dimmit. They then settled in Levelland in 1987 to enjoy their retirement years. She is preceded in death by her Husband John W. Walker; Parents E.M. and Odie Faye Barnes; Sisters Mildred Childress, Eva Ann Vaughn, Eddie Flo Holloway and Barbara Cooper; and Brother Dr. Donald E. Barnes. Those left to cherish her memory are Sons John N. (Ned) Walker and wife Catherine of Buena Vista, NM; Darrell Walker and wife Judy of Terrell, TX; Daughter Susan Flippin and husband Ricky of Plainview TX; three Brothers Royce Barnes and wife Charlotte of Keller, TX; Davis Barnes and wife Bootsye of Levelland, TX; Doug Barnes of Levelland; Sisters Linda Burns of Seminole, TX; Eula Funk and husband Frank of Milton, FL; 14 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the E.M. Barnes Memorial Scholarship Fund at South Plains College.
