NEPONSET ~ Florence Stetson Papp, 94, of Peoria, passed away at 10:42 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2016 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was formerly of Neponset.
Born November 24, 1922 in Neponset to Charles Dean and Marilyn (Hill) Blake, she married Harold “Bus” Stetson on January 5, 1942 in Neponset. He died April 27, 1991. She later married George R. Papp on June 6, 1992. He died December 22, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Wilbur Blake.
Surviving are one daughter, Patricia (Gordon) Petry of Pekin; one son, Greg (Patricia) Stetson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; five grandchildren, Michael (Shanta) Petry, Kristen (David) Conroy, Megan (Scott) Larson, Amy (Andy) Walser, and Julieanne (Jed) Cothren; seven great-grandchildren, Madison, Braden and Kyra Conroy, Rebecca and Sam Walser, Blake Petry, and Jordan Rodriguez; one sister, Carol (Wayne) Gerrond of Neponset; sister-in-law, Ann Blake of Neponset; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Neponset Township High School.
Florence worked for Martin Engineering Company in Neponset for over 20 years, retiring in 1983 as the executive secretary.
She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church of Neponset and in recent years, attended Congregational United Church of Christ in Pekin. She had been a member of the Neponset Library Board, Neponset Women’s Club, and the Neponset American Legion Post #875 Auxiliary.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at the First Congregational Church in Neponset. Pastor William Toliver will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Floral Hill Cemetery in Neponset.
