Floyd S. Barton, Jr., 83, passed away, Friday, January 12, 2018 in Raleigh, North Carolina, with his children by his side.

Floyd was born on June 4, 1934, in West New York, New Jersey to Floyd Sr. and May Barton. After graduating high school he went on to attend Fairleigh Dickinson University to study engineering. On September 1, 1961, he married Phyllis Thompson of Brooklyn, New York in Pearl River, New York. Floyd was employed as an electrical engineer with both Bell Labs and AT&T before he retired at the age of 50. He spent much of his later life in Lake Bomoseen, Vermont, where he spent much time as a young child. He enjoyed model trains, the New York Yankees, and his three children. Floyd was both a United States veteran and a Freemason.

Floyd is survived by his three children, Susan Schaeffer and husband Dave Schaeffer of Palm Desert, California, Robert Barton and his wife Andjelia Barton of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Karen Barton and her husband Casey Miller of Fort Collins, Colorado; three grandchildren, Aleksandar and Christopher Barton and Elijah Miller; and three grand-dogs, Kiwi, Riley, and Diego. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Margaret "Peggy" Barton, and his beloved dog Pongo.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, January 26th at Trinity Reformed Church, 401 60th Street in West New York, NJ, where Reverend Sharpe will be officiating. A private family burial will follow on Saturday, January 27th at 10:30 am at Fairview Cemetery, 500 Fairview Ave in Fairview, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to National Council on the Aging (www.ncoa.org) or Meals on Wheels America (www.mealsonwheelsamerica.org), the latter being an organization that ensures all seniors live nourished lives with independence and dignity.
