TAYLORSVILLE- Duree Fox Barkley Renegar, 89, passed away On September 17, 2017.

She was born on May 11, 1928 in Statesville, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Clint E. Fox and Octa Cartner Fox. Duree grew up in the Oakdale and Cool Springs Community of Iredell County. In May of 1945 she graduated from Cool Springs High School. She was first married to Roy R. Barkley who was her high school sweetheart. On June 2, 1945 there were married and lived together for 31 years. In August of the same year they were married he was drafted into the Navy and soon after went overseas and was a seaman second class in the Seabees. Roy passed in 1976. In 1981 she met and married Ray Renegar, a retired military man. They moved to the mountains of western North Carolina where they lived together for 25 years until he passed in May of 2006.

Duree was an outdoor person, loved camping and hiking with her children. She also enjoyed collecting and growing wildflowers at her mountain cabin.
In addition to her parents and her two husbands she is preceded in death by son, William Scott Barkley; daughter, Melinda June Chandler; brothers, Charlie and Godfrey Fox and daughter-in-law, Cindy Barkley.

She is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Sonny) Johnson; sons, Jim Barkley, John (Pamela) Barkley and Scott (Leanne) Barkley; eight grandchildren, Heather Norman, Any Oates, Christy Eidemiller, Jeff Tibbitts, Philip Barkley, Reese Barkley, Jillian Barkley and Marie Deese; five great-grandchildren, Haylee Oates, Jacob Norman, Drew Tibbitts, Alex Tibbitts and Jacob Lackey; sisters, Merita Lanier and Rebecca (Ed) Parks; brothers, Bob (Nancy) Fox and Mike (Missy) Fox; sister-in-law's, June Fox and Brenda Fox and many other loving family members.

Duree will lie in state from 1:30-2pm Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Providence United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will start at 2pm with Rev. David Locke officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall.

Burial will be on Monday at Iredell Memorial Gardens at 10am.
