Rupert, VT-Frances J. DeLong, 88, a longtime resident of Rupert, VT, passed away Wednesday morning, December 23, 2009 at Glens Falls Hospital. She had lived with her daughter Phyllis before becoming a resident of the Fort Hudson Nursing Home. Born July 16, 1921 in Rupert, she was the daughter of the late George and Jennett (Gage) Fisher. Mrs. DeLong was educated in a one room school house in Rupert. During World War II, she had worked for the American Red Cross and later was a telephone operator in Rupert. In recent years Mrs. DeLong was recognized as one of the oldest members of the Rupert United Methodist Church. Mrs. DeLong had a great sense of humor and loved family gatherings and collecting family photos. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and also her great great granddaughter. She loved to cook, bake, loved her cats and also playing bingo when she was able to.

She is survived by her children, Phyllis DeLong of Fort Edward, Sheila Nolan of Fort Edward, Shirley Bennett of Hudson Falls and Pamela DeLong of Fort Ann. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. DeLong was also pre-deceased by her husband, Basil R. DeLong whom she married November 23, 1947, he passed away November 22, 1998; her brothers, Raymond Fisher, Horace Fisher, Edward Fisher and Edwin Fisher.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at the Rupert United Methodist Church, Rtes. 153 & 315 in Rupert with Rev. Mary Beth Hutchinson officiating. A calling hour will be held Sunday at the church from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm prior to the funeral service. Spring burial will be at the Rupert Cemetery.

The family thanks the staff of the Pavillion Unit of the Fort Hudson Nursing Home, especially Jennifer Dickinson and Carol Gazillo for their wonderful care and compassion to Mrs. DeLong.
