Frances Lee Stephens Lane, 83, of McGregor went to her heavenly home on July 1, 2016.
Funeral services are 10:00 a. m., Saturday, July 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church. Internment will follow at McGregor Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p. m., Friday, July 8, 2016 at Cole Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lane was born on July 18, 1932, in McGregor, TX, the oldest daughter of the late Joseph Ira and Willie (Janes) Stephens. She attended McGregor High School and graduated in 1950. After graduation, she attended Four C Business School and later McLennan Community College. She married Wilburn Eugene Lane on June 17, 1955 at First Baptist Church. They were married 38 years when he preceded her in death on January 19, 1994. Frances worked at First National Bank in McGregor for over 40 years as secretary to bank presidents and later as a loan officer. Her love of work and people would not allow her to remain at home after retirement. To stay active and in touch with others in the community, she worked at Fred's. Frances was a life-long member of First Baptist Church and served as the Sunday school teacher for the five year old class for many years. She also spent several years working with children in the nursery department at First United Methodist Church. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, McGregor Band Boosters and the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as a Worthy Matron. Frances loved her family, sports and people in general. She never met a stranger. You could find her on Friday nights cheering for the Bulldogs and working in the concession stand. She was an avid supporter of her children and the sports they played as well. Frances' defining characteristic was her beautiful smile and dimples.
McGregor was her life-long home even though she had spent the last 14 months in Baton Rouge, LA with her daughter, Beverly Lane Frentress and granddaughters Jennifer and Jessica Frentress. Other survivors are son, Robert (Bobby) Lane and wife Jeanne of McGregor; granddaughters, Ashlea Lane of McGregor and Jennifer Welch of Troy, TX; sister, Dorothy Bates and husband Billy of McGregor; sister Loretta Schiller of Temple, TX; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Charles Stephens of Belton, TX.
Memorials can be made to the American Stroke Association, The Carpenter House/St. Joseph Hospice in Baton Rouge, LA or the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff at The Carpenter House for the care and compassion shown to Frances in her last days.
