HARE, Francis A. "Bud," passed peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, December 31, 2017. Born in Washington, Pennsylvania on November 5, 1926, to Elda Elizabeth and Francis Alfred Hare, he was the youngest and last surviving child. Bud was preceded in death by his two brothers, John Edgar Hare and William Hodge Hare; and also by his stepfather, Colonel Nathaniel James Perkins of Fork Union. He left behind his five children, Bunny Hare, Jack Hare (Moggie), Nancy Landrum, Hobie Hare (Erik) and Bill Hare; four grandchildren, Tara and Megan Landrum, and Emory and Peyton Hare; and many friends. Bud graduated Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia with a degree in psychology in 1950 and earned a master's degree in social work from RPI. He served as Chief Probation Officer for Henrico County and then as director of Court Services at the Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court until retiring at age 63 in 1990. He was also a World War II veteran and served stateside during the Korean War. Bud loved spending time with his grandchildren. Outside the family he was best known for his love of baseball and coaching Tuckahoe Little League teams, including numerous successful all-star teams. He stayed active with TLL for many years as president, board member and in other capacities. He helped start TLL's Challenger Program. He was also a huge dog lover, and was especially fond of his two Irish Setters, Rusty and Beau. Bud enjoyed following the New York Yankees baseball team, year after year. He will be missed by everyone. Our family wishes to thank CLS at Radford for their caring and compassionate care and Medihospice of Pulaski, Va. Service will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at the Woody Funeral Home Parham Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to TLL Challenger Program or Best Friends Animal Society.
