Broderick, Francis D. 91 Nov. 20, 1920 March 11, 2012

Francis "Don" Broderick, 91, a longtime resident of Portland died Sunday, March 11. Don was born on Nov. 20, 1920 in Portland, the son of Francis D. and Louise E. Broderick. He was raised and received his education in Portland, later attending and graduating with a degree in journalism from The University of Oregon.

He joined the Navy on Aug. 27, 1942. His active service began on July 9, 1943, serving the war effort through March 24, 1946. Along the way he received an American Area Campaign Medal and a World War II Victory Medal.

He had a variety of jobs and passions in his life, the most notable being his devotion to his Catholic faith and his interest in helping the poor. He enjoyed several decades of volunteering his services to the Blanchet House of Hospitality in downtown Portland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bob. Survivors include his sister-in-law, Patricia Broderick; and his nieces, Bridgit Inglis and Jennifer Broderick.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Rose Church in N.E. Portland on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 9 a.m. The family suggests that remembrances be made in his memory to the Blanchet House of Hospitality, P.O. Box 4145, Portland 97208.
