Frank John Murin, 93, of Lake Mary, Florida passed away September 1, 2017. He was born on April 25, 1924 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania; the son of Martin and Frances Murin. Frank served in the United States Army as a Sergeant during WWII at Schofield Barracks, Wahiawa Oahu Hawaii in the 25th Infantry Division, Tropic of Lightning. After the war, he returned to Pennsylvania and married his bride, Christina Obrovac on May 27, 1950 and they shared 58 years of marriage until her death in 2008.



Frank worked for many years as a Federal Mine Inspector in Pennsylvania where he was a resident most of his life. He was a parishioner of Saints Cyril & Methodius Church in Fairchance, PA and served as an usher. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 47 In Uniontown PA and the AMVETS post 103, the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 72, and the Slovene National Benefit Society Lodge 87. Frank was a graduate of Georges Township High School class of 1942; and in 1992, Frank helped organized his 50th class reunion.



In 2013, he moved to Lake Mary Florida fulfilling a life-long dream of living in a warm and sunny climate. He lived independently at Spring Hills Lake Mary Senior Community and served as President of their Resident Council in 2014-2015 and in 2016-2017. Frank had many hobbies and interests. He and his wife Christina were wonderful dancers and spent many weekends attending polka dances, concerts and events. He was especially fond of Button Box Accordion music and was an amateur accordion player. He was an avid boater and fisherman and continued to fish while living in Florida. Frank also played golf and was a member of his church golf league. He was a die-hard fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. He enjoyed working on his computer and live-streamed his beloved Pirate baseball games to his computer devices in Florida. Frank loved to travel and enjoyed fine dining. Highlights of his trips were taking his wife, daughter and son to his parent’s homeland of Slovenia while also visiting Croatia. He enjoyed traveling back to Hawaii to visit the islands where he was stationed during the war as well as traveling throughout the United States and Canada with his ever-present travel companions, his wife, daughter and son-in-law.



Frank is survived by his daughter, Deborah and her husband Dr. Charles (Allan) Larsen of Pittsburgh PA and his son, Kenneth Murin and wife Chris of Harrisburg PA. He has two grandchildren Zachary Murin (wife Candy) of Connellsville PA, and Andrew Murin of Harrisburg PA, two great grandchildren Noah and Olivia, a sister, Jennie Schager of Port Orange Florida and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Christina, his parents, Martin & Frances, brothers Martin & John and sisters Frances Cerar, Mary (Mitzi) Zedar, Anne Majowka, Cecelia Dobrovich, Rose Merslich, Louise Bellon and Sophie Cote.



Visitation will be held at Baldwin Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel in Sanford Florida on Tuesday, September 5 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm, with a Mass beginning at 3:00 pm. Burial Services will be held at Mt. Saint Macrina Cemetery in Uniontown PA on September 13, 2017 at 11 am. Frank’s family suggest in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to the Mother House of the Sisters of St. Basil the Great at Mt.
