Francisco "Frankie" Angeles Ramirez, 96, a long-time resident of Killeen TX died November 8, 2017 of natural causes. A native of Corregidor, Philippine Islands, he retired from the U.S Army in 1961 after serving in Ft. Hood and went on to work in the Federal Civil Service at Darnall Army Hospital for another 26 years.

Before joining the U.S. military, Mr. Ramirez was a member of the 91st Coast Artillery, Philippine Scouts. He was a P.O.W. during World War II. He was given a Bronze Star, along with other medals for service during both World War II and the Korean War. Most recently, he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for Filipino Veterans of World War II during ceremonies held in Washington, DC.

Mr. Ramirez was a life member of the American Ex-POW Cen-Tex Chapter #1, VFW Post #3892, American Legion Post #223, the Philippine Scout Heritage Society and the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor. He was also a member of the Filipino-American Association of Central Texas and served in various leadership positions throughout the years.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Hisako "Sally" Ramirez, and a son, Frankie A. Ramirez Jr. (USMC). He is survived by his wife, Christa Sharkey Ramirez; daughters Virginia Ramirez-Juenger (husband Bill) and Linda O. Ramirez (husband Stan Tamai); a son Freddie (wife Sandra); grandsons Frank and Nicholas Tamai; step-son Richard Sharkey and step-grandchildren Elizabeth Sunderman and Richard Jr. and Aaron Sharkey.

Visitation for Mr. Ramirez will be held from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2017 followed by a memorial service at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home. Interment will be held immediately after at Killeen Memorial Park.
